Baby Growth Chart by Month

Keeping track of the baby growth chart by month helps you understand the milestones your newborn baby is heading towards. You may think your baby sleeps most of the time, but during this time major development occurs in the tiny body.

How to Track Baby Growth?

If your baby is taking the breast milk or formula milk properly, looks healthy and seems to be growing up (you can compare your baby with his/her last month pictures), there is no need to weigh your baby very often.

Your baby's doctor will check the weight and length (height) of your baby at every checkup specially in the first few weeks. After that, your baby will be weighed:

  • Once a month until your baby is 6 months old.
  • Once after every 2 months when your baby is 6 to 12 months old.
  • Once every 3 months when your baby is over 1 years old.

When you take your baby to the doctor at 6 - 8 weeks for a scheduled checkup, your doctor will measure the length of your baby along with the weight. The doctor may also schedule a routine checkup once your baby is 12 months old. Once your baby is two years of age and can stand up properly without bending down, this length measurement is converted into height measurement.

What if my baby is not achieving some of the developmental milestones?

Do all women have the exact same weight and height at a certain age? Is the BMI of every 35 year old man exactly the same? The answer is an obvious No. Then how can you want your baby to be a cloned version of someone else's baby in development? The baby milestones' chart is for reference only. Unless there is something really bothering you about your baby, he is super-fine and just too gorgeous to be compared.

While your baby may achieve the 5 month old milestones in 6 months, if you notice that your baby is really lagging behind, talk to your doctor.
